We are seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to support our growing import compliance and brokerage team.
Role Summary
The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and submitting accurate customs entries for high-volume import shipments while ensuring full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and partner government agency (PGA)
requirements. This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and transmit import entries via ABI for air, ocean, and ground shipments
- Perform accurate HTS classification, valuation, and country-of-origin determinations
- Calculate duties, taxes, and applicable fees
- Ensure compliance with CBP regulations and PGA requirements (FDA, USDA, FCC, DOT, EPA, etc.)
- Review and validate shipping documentation including invoices, packing lists, and transport documents
- Manage CBP exams, holds, CF28/CF29 responses, and post-entry corrections
- Communicate effectively with customers, overseas offices, carriers, brokers, and CBP
- Maintain accurate records in brokerage systems
- Support audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Meet strict service-level agreements (SLAs) and KPI targets
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer or Import Compliance Specialist
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and ABI filing
- Proven experience with HTS classification and import compliance
- Ability to manage high-volume entries with strong accuracy
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with customs brokerage software and MS Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Customs Broker License (highly preferred but not required)
- Experience working in a large freight forwarder or licensed customs brokerage
- Experience supporting enterprise customers and complex supply chains
- Familiarity with ERP and enterprise TMS systems (e.g., CargoWise, SAP GTS, Descartes)
- Multilingual abilities a plus
