Role Summary
The Ocean Import Coordinator will manage the full cycle of ocean import shipments, from origin coordination through final delivery, ensuring smooth execution, regulatory compliance, and high levels of customer satisfaction. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment, handling multiple shipments, and being part of a close-knit operations team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end ocean import shipments (FCL & LCL)
- Coordinate bookings, schedules, and documentation with overseas agents and carriers
- Track shipments and provide proactive updates to customers
- Prepare, review, and distribute shipping documents (B/L, arrival notices, delivery orders)
- Coordinate customs clearance with brokers and ensure timely release
- Arrange domestic trucking and final-mile delivery
- Resolve shipment delays, damages, and exceptions
- Maintain accurate shipment records in the operating system
- Support billing, invoicing, and file closing processes
- Deliver high-touch customer service
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in ocean import operations at a freight forwarder or NVOCC
- Strong knowledge of ocean import processes, documentation, and Incoterms
- Experience handling FCL and LCL shipments
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication and customer service abilities
- Proficiency in freight forwarding systems and MS Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a small or mid-sized freight forwarding company
- Experience with CargoWise or similar freight forwarding systems
- Knowledge of customs clearance and import compliance
- Multilingual abilities a plus
